SAMPLE SCHEDULE

 

(This schedule is subject to change to maximize safety, logistics and teaching conditions. Breaks are scheduled as needed. An updated schedule will be given out the first morning of class).

DAY 1:

8:30 am Welcome and Introductions

  • Participant and instructor introductions and expectations
  • Review workshop schedule and logistics
  • Registration requirements, fees due, liability waivers, health forms.

 

ACA Overview
  • Certification requirements reviewed: Proficiency in technical knowledge, paddling skills, teaching skills and safety.
  • ACA paperwork and procedures

 

Review Presentation Style, Teaching and Learning Theory (IT Presentation)

 

Dryland Presentations by Candidates (3-5 minutes) These talks will be ongoing throughout the ICE.

leadership role in an open water setting. Typical leadership roles include group management while navigating from one point to another, rescues, responding to unexpected scenarios and dealing with crossings).

7:00 pm Instructor Trainer Presentations and/or Instructor Candidate Presentations

DAY 3:

8:30 am Instructor Trainer Presentations

  • Instructor Judgement and Managing Risk
  • Liability in Paddling Instruction

Candidate Presentations (12 minutes in length) These presentations should be aimed at the beginner paddler and how it effects them.

12:00 pm Lunch (Bring a bag lunch and plenty to drink. The lunch break might be a working lunch, so make it simple and quick. Use this time also to prepare your kayak for the afternoon session).
